The Kuslahden alaste "Clan"
« on: May 18, 2010, 22:23:22 »
We've been calling ourselves a clan for more than 3 years.
But are we really a clan?

We barely game together, we never have clan wars or relations with other clans.
We do not band together as much as other clans and do not exactly have the clan-like family feeling.

I'd like to suggest that we change our official title from "Kuslahden alaste Clan" to something else which better suits our ... group of players.
Juppi's position should also be called something else other than a "leader".
Perhaps a "Chair" would be more suitable.

I do not have any personal ideas about naming the clan but I would really like to see what you guys think!
Please share your opinion here!

I don't really see any need to change what we call ourselves. Sure we havent been very active in VC:MP but most of us active members play games like SA:MP, L4D, Synergy, CS:S (maybe LU too :P) as a clan on a daily basis. And when were not playing we idle on irc chatting

What comes to clan wars theyre mainly VC:MP or SA:MP deathmatch and those mods suck for dm. If someone wants a dm clanwar i would reconsider if the game was something with a better sync (hell even CS:S sounds better even though its not my personal favourite).

Indeed.

Plus, clan was never an appropriate term for gaming gangs.

yeah, you shouldn't be calling yourselves a clan if you've never had/will do clan wars in games/mods you are active in.

To be honest, I don't see what all the fuss is about, why can't we call ourselves a clan? We have done for the past three years, so why change now? It's not exactly having a huge affect on Ka as a whole and therefore changing it wouldn't really make much difference. We act and behave like other clans, in the fact that we have a members from all the world that like to game, the only difference I can see is that we don't have clan wars. Personally I've never even seen the point in clan wars, doesn't really show much if you ask me. If anything, we play a lot more games than other clans that I know of. General consensus is that if it's multiplayer, then Ka members will generally wear the tag.

To sum that all up, your all fussing over a simple little word that doesn't have much bearing and therefore we should still be called a 'clan'.

As a response to the clan war argument, like i said i would (personally) think about it if the game was something else than for example vc-mp/sa-mp, i play for fun and i dont consider fighting someone while raging at the crap sync 'fun'

I'm happy with the fact that (most of us) are active and play games together for fun :P

It's not about fussing over a small word, it's about doing things right.
We've a proper members system now so why not get the naming right?

Quote
A clan is a group of people united by actual or perceived kinship and descent.

The name "clan" is inappropriate for use on the net, full stop.
Well of course the definition I have mentioned applies to tribes which existed centuries ago but the name partially works at the moment for some gaming gangs because they band together to fight.

We don't.
Our tag is a decoration, nothing more and you've got to admit it. It won't get changed until we do something about it.

Part of getting a unique culture and setting us apart from the other gaming groups is naming ourselves appropriately.

Since you brought up a definition for a 'clan' heres another one i found:

Quote
Clan - A large group of relatives, friends, or associates.

That describes Ka pretty well in my opinion. Ka has always been and worked this way, its purpose has been having fun together with online friends, playing, chatting, or perhaps scripting/coding - as simple as that. If you wish to call Ka something else than a clan, that's fine, but i don't see the problem in using the word 'clan' either.

And honestly, who gives a damn what we call ourselves or if we match the definition of a 'clan' exactly'? :P  I'm sure the majority of Ka is happy the way things are, and enjoy having a good game together, whether we call ourselves a clan or not.

Oh well, clan rules dictate that we should wait until we have more than half of the seniors supporting either side for a decision to be made. (Unless Juppi makes the decision)

I still stand by my opinion and although it doesn't seem like a big deal, I've always thought 'clan' was inappropriate.

I guess we've currently got 2 for and 2 against. We've 9 seniors so we'll need at least 5 in favour/against.
